Young Authors

YOUNG AUTHOR INFORMATION: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Young Authors is rapidly approaching and it is time to sign up. The date is Tuesday, May 3. Young Authors is for students in grades K-5. This year, we will be attending all day, which includes an author session, a time for your kids to share a book or other writing they have done, lunch and an additional special activity. We will also be pen pals with a public school class.

AUTHOR:

The author this year will be non-fiction nature author Jerry Pallotta. Read more about him at his website: www.jerrypallotta.com.

FEES AND INFORMATION:

We have 22 slots available. If those slots fill up, there will be a waiting list in the event of a cancellation. There will be a registration fee depending on how many kids are signed up (for example, if 30 kids sign up, the fee will be about $2.00 per child). Also, lunch will be an additional $6.00. Lunch will consist of pizza, fruit or veggie, milk and ice cream. T-shirts will be available for purchase later in March.

HOW TO REGISTER:

To register, send a Facebook PM to me (or email Kmillin1969@att.net) with the names and grades of your children. Deadline will be FEBRUARY 8. I need to set up the penpals and register for lunch.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. I will do my best to answer them!

Art Open Studios with Elizabeth Howe

Hi to all,

We had a great fall session of art. I will soon be sending  out the schedule for the winter session that starts in January. Meanwhile we will be doing a few OPEN STUDIOs

Open Studio is a great time for students to explore forms of art that interest them and express their creativity.

Projects will be supervised and instruction given as needed but this is a time for them to explore.

My experience with Open Studio times is that students don't always create their most profound works, but they explore deeper their creative spirit. Thus studio time is just as important to creative development as regular classes.

Pay attention to the dates, but also the ages and times as they vary slightly from our regular session.

Your child is welcome to bring a friend with them, I just need to know who is planning on coming and if they will have a friend so I can make sure we have enough room for all.

Here is the schedule for the next few weeks 

Ages 4-10 - Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00 Class fee is $10 per each student includes materials and supplies

Ages 8 and up - Thursdays from 3:30-5:30 fee is $10. per each student includes materials and supplies.

November Homeschool Rollerskating/ Sportsplex Day

Wednesday, November 18 from 1-3 pm will be our homeschool day at the UP Sportsplex. Cost will be $6 per participant and that covers all activities except putt putt golf. Rollerskating, bounce houses and slides, and the turf will all be included. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. The UP Sportsplex is located at 1110 Wright Street in Marquette. We have been having such large turnouts, that I think it will be safe to say RSVP is not needed.  Hope to see you there!

Junior Ecology

Hi all,

I have an NMU Extension Program Instructor who is interested in working regularly with a teen group to further education in natural biology/ecology, practice stewardship and work on team building skills. 

This is specifically for teens 13 and up. If you think you might have teens interested, please call/email/ text me how many. Also, if you are interested in attending the brainstorming session (TBD), please let me know.

Please feel free to extend this invitation to anyone else you might know who is not on this list, but be aware that sessions will occur during regular school hours.

I'll also be putting together a less formal "Nature Crew" for the 8-12 range - so feel free to email me any kids in that range who might be interested in this as well.

Just gauging interest at this point.

Tubing Party Update

Hey Everyone,

What a great response to the tubing party!  We have gotten enough families signed-up right now that I am going to have to close the sign-up and start a wait list.  There will probably be families who have schedule conflicts and I may be able to open it back up.  If I get a lot of people on the wait list I can help someone plan another tubing day.  I am sorry to have to do this, but only so many people can use the hill at one time. Not much fun to pay to stand in the cold.
