Art Class Survey

For those interested in art, Elizabeth Howe is willing to offer some more classes for homeschoolers.  In order to figure out a schedule and what to teach, I need some input from you as we work it all out.  There are many types of art classes she can teach, some of which do not require the Drawing and Color Theory she did last year.  So even if you haven't taken art from Elizabeth before, you may be able to participate in these next classes, depending on what type we decide on.

First, let me know what art classes you'd be interested in. Elizabeth suggested the following:
Sculptures, painting, china silk, mix media, fiber art.

Secondly, she'd like the number and ages of kids interested.

Thirdly, what do you feel about summer camps? She could do classes during the summer 2 hours a day for 5 days, rather than once a week.

Michigan State Police Open House

For those that missed our field trip of the Michigan State Police post last year, the Negaunee Post of the Michigan State Police is having an open house Friday (April 19) from 4-7 pm.  It is open to children and adults. They're offering tours of the facility which also includes a look at the Marquette County Central Dispatch center.  The history of the Michigan State Police and a number of displays will also be part of the event.

Mom's-only Get Together

Our next Mom's-only Meeting will be Tuesday, May 7 at 6:30 pm.  It will be at Beth's house- please email if you need directions.  See you then!

March Mom's Only Meeting

This month's Mom's-Only Meeting will be Tuesday, March 26, 6:30 pm at Kathy Millin's house.  If you need Kathy's address, please email me at marquettechums@yahoo.com.  Everyone bring a baby (or toddler) picture of yourself to the meeting (but don't show anyone when you arrive!)  See you then!

February Mom's-Only Meeting

This month's Mom's-only meeting will be Tuesday, February 26, 6:30 pm.  Same location- my house.  If you need directions, let me know!  No specific theme this month- just bring yourself for some visiting and catching up!

February Field Trip

Next month's field trip will be to Hotplate Pottery (on the corner of Washington and Third in Marquette) on Tuesday, February 12 at 1 p m.  We will learn about the process: painting, glazing, and the kiln.  Afterwards, families are welcome to stay and paint something with their children.  Items to paint range from $8 to $60, and there are a lot to choose from!  There is a number limit to do the tour, so please RSVP by January 31 at marquettechums@yahoo.com.

Young Authors Registration

It's time to get serious about YOUNG AUTHORS!! I have 30 slots available for the conference.  I will place your children on a first come, first serve basis.  Any others will go on a waiting list.

NOW is the time to register.  Send me the FIRST NAME ONLY & GRADE of the children that will be attending.  Registration will close FEBRUARY 15.

The conference will be held May 6-9 at NMU.  Looks like we will be attending on Tuesday, May 7 and we will be attending the AUTHOR ONLY portion of the day (more details to follow).  The featured author is Kristine O'Connell George (www.kristinegeorge.com).
